Family Maternity Pictures at Standley Lake | Colorado Lifestyle Photography

I met Alex and Richard at Standley Lake with their son, Nico, and their dog, Ella, for an evening of family maternity pictures by the water. Nico absolutely brought the personality, and I love how much of this session feels like real life: running along the shoreline, climbing onto Dad’s shoulders, loving on Mom’s belly, and exploring with Ella right beside him.

Standley Lake is such a beautiful spot for family pictures because there is so much variety without having to go very far. We had open trails, mountain views, the sandy shoreline, and plenty of room for Nico and Ella to move around and just be themselves.

Some of my favorite images are the ones where nothing feels overly posed, Nico laughing in front of his parents, Ella wandering into the lake, and those tiny hands reaching up to Mom’s belly. Those are the photographs that will tell the story of what their family looked and felt like right before they became a family of five.

Alex looked beautiful in her white dress against the soft colors of the lake, and I loved documenting her with Richard while still making Nico and Ella such a big part of the story, their first two babies.
