Estes Park Family Pictures at Lily Lake | Twin Newborn Session in Rocky Mountain National Park

“Thank you so much Kristin! They are beautiful and we love them! I love the pictures you have overlaid our pregnancy announcement and maternity pictures with – it really shows the journey we have been on and it makes me tear up every time I look at them! We have loved working with you and would love to keep doing annual family photos with you! ” – Liz & Tory

There’s something extra special about photographing a family in a place that already holds so much meaning to them. For Liz and Tory, Rocky Mountain National Park has always been one of their favorite places to adventure together, so bringing their twin boys, Benson and Hayden, to Lily Lake for their newborn session felt like the perfect full-circle moment.

Their story with me actually started long before these sweet boys arrived.

Last fall, we met for their pregnancy announcement session at Lake Dillon surrounded by glowing golden aspens and crisp mountain air. Then a few months later, we documented their winter maternity session at NCAR in Boulder with dramatic snowy views and soft winter light. Watching their journey into parenthood unfold has been such an honor, and finally meeting Benson and Hayden at just over 8 weeks old made this session even more meaningful.

Why Lily Lake is Perfect for Estes Park Family Pictures

Lily Lake is one of the most beautiful and accessible locations in Estes Park for family photos, especially with young children or newborns. The easy walking trail, mountain reflections, open meadow views, and peaceful atmosphere create the perfect setting for relaxed and natural family portraits.

For adventurous families like Liz and Tory, it was exactly the right fit. We had incredible mountain views without needing a long hike, which made things much easier while carrying two tiny babies.

The evening light at Lily Lake was soft and golden, and the calm water reflected the surrounding peaks in a way that only Rocky Mountain National Park can.

A Twin Newborn Session in the Mountains

Benson and Hayden were just over 8 weeks old during their session, which is such a sweet age for outdoor newborn photos. The boys were alert, curious, and already showing their little personalities.

One of my favorite things about outdoor newborn sessions is how relaxed they feel compared to a traditional studio session. Families can move, cuddle, laugh, and simply enjoy being together instead of worrying about perfect poses.

Liz and Tory embraced every moment. Wrapped in blankets beside the lake, carrying the boys along the trail, and soaking in the mountain air together.  The entire session felt natural and joyful.

And honestly, photographing twins always adds an extra layer of magic.
