Today, Isabella, you are 13. Officially a teenager! And when I look back at pictures of you from the last year, I can’t believe how much you have grown up. Some days I still catch glimpses of the carefree childhood joy in your face. And other times, I am face to face (literally) with the beautiful young woman you are becoming.
We had so many amazing and incredible memories together this year. From macaroons under the Eiffel Tower, to singing in the rain at Red Rocks. And I treasure every minute I get to spend with you, because time is moving faster every day, and your childhood is fleeting.
The time I get to spend with you, taking your birthday pictures, is one of my favorite traditions that we started together. And this year, we had a full day of adventure in the mountains, scouting locations, chasing fall color, sipping Starbucks, and listening to Taylor Swift in the car. It was a little extra special this year, because your Nana was along for the ride. 3 generations of women, who share the same genes, and who all have our own dreams and ambition to chase.
Every year, my wish for you, Isabella, is to try as many new things as possible, and succeed and fail, and love and laugh, and know that it’s ok to cry, too. This is an exciting time in your life right now, but it’s also full of so much change. Embrace who you are, and know that your dad and I will always love you and be here for you to come home to.
