There is something pretty magical about a summer senior session in the Colorado mountains — especially when the evening gives you wildflowers, glassy alpine lakes, dramatic mountain views, and a cotton candy sunset all in the same two hours.
For Chloe’s senior pictures, we explored Officer’s Gulch and Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir, two of my favorite locations near Frisco and Copper Mountain for senior photos. With two hours together, we had time to slow down, explore both locations, change outfits, and chase the best light as the sun dropped behind the mountains.
Senior Pictures at Officer’s Gulch

Officer’s Gulch is one of those locations that packs so much Colorado scenery into a relatively small area. There’s water, pine forest, rocky shoreline, wildflowers and huge 360 degree mountain views. Which means we can create completely different looks without spending the entire session hiking from place to place.
We photographed along the shoreline, wandered through the mountain landscape and even stepped into the water for some of my favorite portraits from the night.
Chasing Wildflowers at Clinton Gulch Dam

For the second part of Chloe’s session, we headed to Clinton Gulch Dam Reservoir and found little pockets of late-summer wildflowers tucked along the trails.
This is one of my favorite things about mountain senior sessions: we aren’t staying in one spot and repeating the same pose over and over. We’re exploring. Finding flowers. Climbing onto rocks. Watching where the light is going and letting the landscape guide us.
Chloe changed into a simple white dress and boots, which looked incredible against all of the greens, wildflowers and mountain scenery.
The Most Beautiful Colorado Sunset

And then Colorado really showed off.
The sun dropped behind the mountains while the clouds turned shades of peach, pink and soft blue, The kind of cotton candy sunset you can never actually plan for but always hope you’ll get.
Those final images beside the reservoir were the perfect way to finish Chloe’s session.
A two-hour senior session is especially great if you want this kind of variety. It gives us enough time for multiple outfits and locations without rushing, and it allows us to photograph through several different kinds of light, from bright mountain scenery to golden hour and, if we’re lucky, a colorful Colorado sunset.
Planning Your Colorado Mountain Senior Pictures
Senior pictures should feel like more than standing in front of a pretty view and smiling at the camera.
I want these sessions to feel like an evening in the mountains, exploring, laughing, changing outfits in the car, chasing wildflowers and watching the sunset. We’ll still create those beautiful portraits for parents and graduation announcements, but we’ll also make images that actually feel like you.
If you’re dreaming about senior pictures surrounded by mountains, alpine lakes and wildflowers, I’d love to help you plan a session somewhere incredible.
