We finally made it up to the mountains to enjoy the summer mountain activities! Why don’t we do this more often? Many of the Colorado ski resorts offer lots of fun summer outdoor recreation activities and festivals. It’s so much more than just hiking.
So last weekend we went up to Copper Mountain to vote for the “Best Mac & Cheese in Summit County” for the 3rd annual Mac & Cheese Fest. Yummy! With a four year old and a two year old, what’s not to love about sampling 20 different kinds of mac & cheese? Between the four of us, I think we actually hit seven or eight samples. The queso mac & cheese from Casa Sanchez was my personal favorite. And somehow, I missed taking any pictures of the mac & cheese because we ate it up so fast! Although I did stop to take a picture of the yummy donuts we had for dessert from Sugar Lips Mini Donuts.
While we were visiting Copper Mountain, we also took the kids on their first chair lift ride, and surprisingly, they loved it! Even in the raining drizzle. Copper offers free scenic chairlift rides in the summer, if you spend $12 anywhere in the village. We easily had that covered with a round of mini golf and bumper boat rides!
After stuffing our faces with mac & cheese, we spent the night at Hotel Frisco. Then Sunday morning, we got up, grabbed some breakfast and coffee, and headed into Vail. Vail just happens to be my daughter’s middle name, and our favorite place in Colorado. We stumbled upon the Vail Farmer’s Market, and the kids enjoyed playing in the village and hiking to Ford Park.
The mountains are our summertime playground, and I can’t think of a better place for a family weekend getaway!
