‘Tis the season for warm and cuddly newborn sessions. I met this growing family a couple years ago when mom was looking for a newborn photographer in Westminster. Her daughter, Savannah, was one of my first in-home newborn sessions! So I was very excited when I heard she would be a big sister. Her little brother, Luca, arrived at the beginning of November. Luca was awake for most of his newborn session, and he was just so happy and content. And I love his expressions! Sleeping newborns are precious, but I also love being able to capture those baby eyes. We started Luca’s newborn session with some naked baby pictures, and then swaddled him up in that cute striped blanket. But I must admit, I love the little sweater outfit that he wore at the end. So warm and cozy, that he even fell asleep in it.
This newborn session was special, too, not only because they have become family friends over the years, but it also took place in their new house! And they have the most amazing window light in their family room. We did the entire session right there, which is where I know they will be spending a lot of family time together. It is the room where they will watch TV together and read books. And the room where Luca will play on his floor mat and Savannah will twirl around him. There is just nothing more intimate than being invited into a family’s home to capture those first few weeks of life. It’s one of the greatest honors of being a newborn photographer, and I am always thankful after every home session.
