Choosing the perfect location for your family photoshoot is important, as it will set the tone for the photos and be a part of the memories you cherish for years to come. Here are a few tips to help you choose the best spot for your crew:
Consider your family’s personality and interests. Do you enjoy spending time outdoors? Are you a city family or a mountain family? Do you want to keep your little ones away from water, or give them the chance to throw rocks into the lake? Choose a location that reflects who you are as a family and that you’ll all feel comfortable in.
Consider the time of year and time of day. I have a favorite list of locations that I use all year round. However, some spots have more fall foliage, and others have more evergreen trees. Most sessions take place one to two hours before sunset for the best lighting.
Consider what you want to wear. You and your family want to wear colors that will compliment the location you choose, and stand out against the background.
Have fun! The best family photos are those that capture your family’s natural energy and personality. So relax, enjoy yourself, and simply be present in the moment with your family.
