There’s something special about coming back to the place that feels like home. For Johnathan and Leanne, their Garden of the Gods elopement was more than just a beautiful Colorado adventure. It was a chance to celebrate their love in the place that shaped so much of Johnathan’s story. Although the two now live in California, Johnathan knew he wanted to bring Leanne to Colorado Springs to experience the magic of Garden of the Gods for their elopement portraits.
And honestly? It could not have been a more perfect evening.
A Colorado Springs Elopement at Garden of the Gods
Garden of the Gods is one of the most iconic places in Colorado for an elopement, and it’s easy to see why. The towering red rock formations, sweeping mountain views, and golden sunset light create a backdrop that feels almost unreal.
I met Johnathan and Leanne at High Point Overlook, one of the best hidden spots inside Garden of the Gods for panoramic views of the park and Pikes Peak in the distance. The soft evening light paired perfectly with the warm red sandstone, giving their entire session a romantic and cinematic feel.
Their vision for the day was simple:
- meaningful moments together
- incredible Colorado scenery
- and a relaxed experience that felt true to them
No stress. No pressure. Just celebrating their marriage together in one of the most beautiful places in Colorado.
Why Garden of the Gods is Perfect for Elopements
If you’re considering a Garden of the Gods elopement, this session is the perfect example of why couples love this location so much.
Stunning Views Without a Long Hike
One of the best things about Garden of the Gods is how accessible it is. You can get breathtaking mountain views and dramatic red rock landscapes without needing a difficult hike.
High Point Overlook is especially beautiful because it gives couples:
- wide-open mountain views
- glowing sunset light
- unique red rock textures
- and plenty of space for intimate portraits
It’s ideal for couples who want adventurous photos while still keeping the experience easy and relaxed.
Incredible Sunset Light
Colorado sunsets hit differently at Garden of the Gods.
As the sun dropped behind the mountains, the entire landscape started glowing with warm tones. The light wrapped around Johnathan and Leanne perfectly, creating some of the dreamiest portraits of the evening.
The combination of:
- soft sky tones
- red sandstone
- and mountain backdrops
makes Garden of the Gods one of the best sunset elopement locations in Colorado Springs.
Johnathan + Leanne’s Elopement Style
Leanne wore a stunning white dress that moved beautifully in the wind and complemented the natural tones of the landscape perfectly. Johnathan kept things classic and timeless with neutral tones that matched the earthy Colorado scenery. Their entire session felt effortless.
From quiet moments together on top of the rocks to playful piggyback rides overlooking the park, every part of their elopement reflected who they are as a couple. Adventurous, connected, and completely present with each other.
One of my favorite moments from the evening was when Leanne excitedly showed off her ring while laughing on Johnathan’s shoulders with Garden of the Gods in the background. Those candid moments always end up meaning the most.
Planning a Garden of the Gods Elopement
If you’re dreaming about eloping in Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods is one of the best locations you can choose.
A few things to keep in mind when planning:
- Sunrise and sunset are the best times for portraits
- Weekdays are usually less crowded
- Weddings are allowed for free on a first-come, first-served basis, provided you use designated ceremony sites, follow Leave No Trace principles, and keep groups under 50 people.
And most importantly…make the experience your own.
Whether you want something adventurous, intimate, laid-back, or wildly romantic, Garden of the Gods gives couples the freedom to create an elopement day that actually feels personal.
“These are amazing! We had such a fun time doing the shoot, it was a lovely experience :)” – Johnathan and Leanne
