What I love most about being a Frederick Newborn Photographer, is getting to meet the little brothers and sisters, and capturing my clients’ growing families. There is a unique magic that happens during a newborn session when an older sibling holds their new baby brother or sister. Like these sisters, Chloe and Stella. These moments are priceless. Whether they are planting a gentle kiss on the baby’s forehead or simply sitting proudly beside their new best friend, these photos capture the beginning of a lifelong bond.
Worried about how your toddler or preschooler will do during the session? It’s completely normal! Here are a few things I do to make the sibling portion successful and stress-free:
Keep it Short & Sweet: We prioritize sibling and family photos at the very beginning of the session. Kids have short attention spans, so we aim for success early on.
Make it Fun: We always follow the lead of your baby and older sibling, and keep the poses simple and safe. Often, a quick reward or a planned activity for them afterward (like a trip to the park with a second parent) works wonders!
Safety is Key: All sibling poses are done with the baby safely supported. For younger siblings, a parent is always close by (often just out of the camera frame) to ensure baby’s safety and comfort.
