Fall Family Pictures in Golden | Colorado Lifestyle Photography

One of my favorite locations for Fall Family Pictures in Golden is the Gateway Trailhead. The Gateway Trailhead sits at the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon, offering a stunning mix of rugged canyon walls and soft, lush greenery. The tree-lined walking paths follow the curves of Clear Creek, providing that classic “golden hour” glow as the sun dips behind the canyon cliffs.

In the fall, the trees transform into a vibrant canopy of yellows and oranges. Whether we are standing on the bridges overlooking the rushing water or climbing the rocks along the creek, the scenery feels tucked away and private, despite being just minutes from downtown Golden.

Aside from the views, the Gateway Trailhead is incredibly practical for families with little ones:

Easy Access: The paths are flat and well-maintained, making it easy to navigate (and bring a stroller if needed).
Visual Variety: We can get “mountain vibes,” “creekside shots,” and “wooded path” looks all within a few minutes walk from the parking lot.
Post-Session Treats: Since you’re already in Golden, it’s easy to head into town afterward for a ice cream or dinner.

While every year is different, and I cannot guarantee fall color, the Gateway Trailhead usually hits its peak color between late September and mid-October.
