This weekend marked the 21st Annual Erie Town Fair and Balloon Festival. Unfortunately, the hot air balloons could not go up on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. The spring storm last week flooded the local parks, and it didn’t dry out enough for the balloons. Of course, my kids definitely missed seeing all of the hot air balloons launch from Colorado National Golf Club this year. However, we did make it a point to head into Historic Downtown Erie Saturday morning to support the Erie Town Fair.
The Erie Town Fair and Balloon Festival is the Erie Chamber’s largest event of the year. As a matter of fact, our family plans the entire month of May around this weekend! After all, the event has grown to over 200 craft and food vendors, many of them local small businesses. There are fun carnival games for the kids and also a beer tent for the adults. The Town Fair blocks the streets of Old Town Erie from 10AM – 4PM. Then the nighttime activities begin at 6PM. Live music was performed by Chris Daniels & the Kings. Four hot air balloons participated in a candlestick glow. And finally, the fireworks show put an end to a long, fun filled day downtown.
I was so happy to see the crowds of people come out to support our small town of Erie, Colorado this weekend. I loved running into so many familiar faces, out enjoying the day with their families. We have such a great community! Hopefully, next year we will have better weather for the Balloon Festival…
