An Evening on Lake Dillon with Colorado Lifestyle Photography

There’s something magical about spending an evening at Lake Dillon. It’s my favorite place to watch the sun set. I recently had the pleasure of photographing a family of three, and it was so much fun.

My goal for every session, especially for families visiting Colorado on vacation, is to make it as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. This means no stiff poses or forced smiles. Instead, I try to create an experience that feels more like a fun outing and less like something your mom is making you do. With this family, we explored the shoreline, skipped a few rocks, and simply enjoyed the beautiful scenery.

By the end of the session, their son, Jack, and I were fast friends. And the best part? He gave the experience “five stars.” Hearing that from a kid during a family photo session is the ultimate compliment and lets me know I’m on the right track.

For me, family photography is about more than just getting the perfect shot. It’s about creating memories and capturing the true feeling of your time together. My hope is that when this family looks back at their photos, they won’t just see beautiful pictures. They’ll remember the sound of the water lapping the shore, the feeling of the cool mountain air, and the joy of being connected and unplugged in the mountains.
