When Is Wildflower Season in Breckenridge?
Wildflower season in Breckenridge and Summit County typically runs from late June through early August. The best time to see peak wildflowers in alpine meadows is usually mid-July, when lupine, paintbrush, columbine, and other wildflowers are in bloom across the mountains.
Snowpack and spring weather can shift the timing slightly each year, but mid-July is usually the most reliable time to see the largest wildflower displays.
Mayflower Gulch
Peak bloom: Mid–Late July
Mayflower Gulch is one of the most iconic wildflower locations in Summit County. The 1.5 mile hike begins near Copper Mountain and leads into a wide alpine basin surrounded by dramatic peaks of the Tenmile Range.
In July, the meadows here can be covered in lupine and other alpine wildflowers, creating one of the most photogenic landscapes in the area. The historic mining cabins near the basin add an extra layer of character to the scenery.

Pass Lake
Peak bloom: Late July
Pass Lake sits just below Loveland Pass on the Continental Divide. This alpine lake offers a quieter and less crowded wildflower experience compared to some of the more popular hiking areas in Summit County.
During peak bloom, wildflowers appear around the lake and along the surrounding slopes. The combination of alpine water, mountain views, and summer flowers makes it a peaceful place to explore.
Because of its higher elevation, wildflowers here often bloom slightly later in the season.
Sawmill Museum
Peak bloom: Early–Mid July
The Sawmill area just outside downtown Breckenridge is a great option for anyone looking for a shorter and quieter hike.
Wildflowers can be found along the Sawmill Trail and near the reservoir, often tucked into forest clearings or along the lakeshore. While the meadows here are smaller than some alpine locations, the scenery is beautiful and easily accessible.
It’s also a great place to enjoy wildflowers without venturing too far from town.
Shrine Pass
Peak bloom: Mid July
Shrine Pass is known for its rolling alpine hills covered in wildflowers. Located near Vail Pass, this area offers wide open views and expansive meadows that come alive with color in mid-summer.
Large patches of lupine and paintbrush can often be found here, creating incredible landscapes that stretch across the hillsides.
Because the road runs along the pass, you can explore several different areas and easily find your own scenic viewpoint.
Cucumber Gulch Preserve
Peak bloom: Early July
Located just outside Breckenridge, Cucumber Gulch Preserve is a protected wildlife area with beautiful mountain views and peaceful trails.
The gentle terrain makes this an easy walk for most visitors, and the open meadows often feature beautiful wildflowers in early summer. The boardwalk sections of trail also offer great vantage points across the valley.
It’s a great place to enjoy the landscape while also spotting local wildlife.
